The purpose of the employee performance appraisal is to provide encouragement to each employee to perform assigned duties and responsibilities at the maximum level of performance, to assess such performance, and to offer avenues for improvement where improvement is necessary. In addition, the annual performance appraisal provides the opportunity for review of the employee’s job duties as well as serving as a guide to pay for performance recommendations for use in the annual salary increase process.
An appraisal is normally performed for a new classified employee three months after initial employment; six months for administrative staff. Continuing appraisal processes generally call for an appraisal each year but they may be conducted more frequently, depending on the business needs of the employer.
