Students can take this course to acquire the skills necessary to properly obtain blood specimens for laboratory testing. If you are interested in expanding your skill set as an allied health professional this course is for you. Medical office personnel who are required to do phlebotomy as part of their daily responsibilities will benefit from this program. EMT's who are looking for employment as a phlebotomist must take this course.
Topics include safety procedures, infection control, specimen collection, collection equipment, point of care testing, customer service and the role of the phlebotomist in the health care system. Healthcare experience is a prerequisite. Textbooks are an additional cost and mandatory first day of class. Hepatitis B immunization is recommended. This course involves 10 sessions - approximately 30 hours. Students who complete this course are not eligible to take the national credentialing examination to become certified phlebotomists.
