Description of Occupation – A medical office technician can also generically be referred to as an office clerk and can do a broad range of administrative tasks, including answering telephones, typing or word processing, filing and document imaging. However, tasks vary widely in different jobs. This will be determined by the needs of the employer. Some of the largest employers are schools, healthcare facilities, and federal, state, and local governments. This program specifically gears the general office clerk to a healthcare setting such as a doctor’s office, small medical practice, hospital setting, outpatient facilities, etc.
Program Entry Requirements – A Work Keys assessment score of 4 or greater on reading, math and information locator assessments is required to participate in this program.
Length of Program and College Certificate/Diploma Conferred – 206 hours sequenced in 8.5 weeks. A certificate of completion will be awarded after successfully completing this program.
Employment Outlook – There is a 17% projected increase in this occupation from 2010 to 2020.
Salary Range - $26,610 median salary in May 2010
