Emergency Health Services Manager

Description of Occupation - An emergency health services manager plans, organizes, directs, controls or coordinates emergency health services. Candidates should possess excellent oral and written communication skills and be able to motivate, develop and direct others. Emergency health services managers should have excellent organization, judgment and decision-making skills and should possess knowledge of good personnel and financial management skills.

Program Entry Requirements - High school diploma or GED. Student should have EMT or significant EMS background (military or ER). Acceptable ACT or SAT scores or HACC placement testing at English 101 and Math 051 levels. Additionally, submission of a Pennsylvania Child Abuse History Clearance and/or State Police Criminal Record Check may be required for employment.

Length of Program and College Degree Conferred - The emergency health services management program is 63 credits, sequenced in 5 semesters, with an associate of arts degree awarded upon successful completion. Completion time can vary depending on a candidate's background and need for identified preparatory skills and coursework and the student's rate of study. The complete program is available at the Harrisburg Campus. Some required courses are available at the Gettysburg, Lancaster and Lebanon campuses and at other sites.

Educational Advancement - Upon completion of this program, students may pursue baccalaureate business or management degrees. Franklin University offers a BS in Healthcare Management and Shippensburg University offers a BS in Healthcare Administration. Immaculata University offers an accelerated BA in Health Care Management (classes in accelerated format and held at HACC's Lancaster Campus).
