NEW NEW NEW - As part of the nursing department's ongoing effort to evaluate the selection process, our point system is reviewed annually. Based on a two-year study conducted by the Office of Institutional Research, a new calculation model has been identified.
The nursing department will implement the new point system beginning with applications for admission into the Associate Degree Nursing program for FALL 2012. View the revised point system. As you pursue your nursing education goals, all pre-nursing students are encouraged to meet with campus counselors/advisors to ensure a better understanding of the selection process.

*All students accepted into the clinical component of the program must undergo (at student's expense) an annual Pennsylvania Child Abuse History Clearance, FBI Check, State Police Criminal Record Check and random drug/alcohol screening. No student will be admitted with a disqualifying criminal history or child abuse clearance.

Pre-clinical is the classification for all newly admitted students and all students taking developmental courses (below 100-level). In order to move into the non-clinical classification, students must complete all required developmental coursework.
Non-clinical students are those who completed all developmental course work and who are not yet selected for admission into the clinical phase of the program. In order to move into the clinical classification, students must apply, be selected, admitted and enrolled in theory and clinical coursework in their major.
Clinical students are those who have been officially selected and admitted to the program and are taking program theory and clinical coursework (NURS, RADT, RESP, etc. designation).
You should work closely with your health career advisor to prepare to apply for the clinical/core component of the program.

Documented high school diploma (document is specific for nursing program) or GED or equivalent foreign education as verified by a HACC-approved credential evaluation service.

Good Standing Form (pdf) - used in the event a student has withdrawn or been dismissed from a clinical program at HACC or another institution and is requesting admission into another clinical program.
Shadowing (see link on the left) (an in-depth one-on-one experience) may be required by your program and may need to be arranged for you by the program. Check the admission criteria website below or consult with your advisor regarding specific requirements. If it isn't required for your program and you are interested in shadowing, you can call the human resources office of a hospital (or your dentist or doctor office) to arrange.
