The Fundraising Campaign

Why is the HACC Foundation conducting fundraising campaigns?

Central Pennsylvania faces important challenges and opportunities that HACC, Central Pennsylvania's Community College, is best positioned to address. The need for a skilled workforce has been cited by community leaders as critical to the region's economic development. Our citizens are not attending college at a rate that can generate and sustain regional prosperity. Therefore, HACC and the HACC Foundation are moving forward with fundraising campaigns to help the region resolve its challenges and capitalize on its opportunities. These campaigns will allow HACC to invest in the future for our region by increasing access and opportunity, leading workforce and economic development initiatives and ensuring access to excellence in instructional equipment and technology that will prepare the workforce.

What is a capital campaign? How is it different from your regular fundraising for the College?

The purpose of a capital campaign is to raise funds for a tangible product (something you can touch - a building or a piece of equipment, for example). HACC’s fundraising campaign is a comprehensive campaign, raising funds for four priorities - one capital priority (Bruce E. Cooper Student Center Renovations) and three intangible priorities (Emergency Assistance Funds, The President’s Fund for Excellence and Scholarships).

A campaign is different from regular fundraising for the College because it has specific priorities and a long-term fundraising goal.

What/who benefits from the five-year fundraising campaign?

The five-year fundraising campaign benefits current and future students, employees and the communities HACC serves.

The purpose of the campaign is to raise $14 million to support four priorities - the Bruce E. Cooper Student Center Renovation, Emergency Assistance Funds, The President's Fund for Excellence and Scholarships. The four campaign priorities each have strategic goals that were set after a feasibility study was completed in summer 2014. The Invest. Impact. Inspire. Campaign for HACC - a five-year, comprehensive fundraising campaign - kicked off its internal phase in August 2015 at the six HACC Convocation events and will conclude in 2020.

Guidelines for Donor Communication to HACC Students

The HACC Foundation is grateful to the generous donors that support the College and its mission to create opportunities and transform lives to shape the future - TOGETHER! To ensure transparency in all we do, the HACC Foundation has established the following guidelines for communication between donors and students. We appreciate the desire to interact with students. Here are suggestions on how to communicate with and learn more about your scholarship recipients:

  • Scholarship Awards Ceremonies:
Donors are encouraged to meet students at the annual HACC Foundation scholarship awards ceremonies. These events provide the opportunity to learn more about the bright students at HACC. Typically, these events are held annually every spring.

  • HACC Foundation Events:
Donors are encouraged to meet students at other events and student speaking engagements, such as the annual Frank J. Dixon Golf Tournament for Scholarships at HACC and the Golden Anniversary Gala.

  • Your Gift at Work Packets:
The HACC Foundation annually provides each donor with a customized Your Gift at Work packet. These packets contain information about your scholarship recipients and include personalized thank-you letters from each student as well as up-to-date financial information on the status of your fund.
The HACC Foundation welcomes questions that you might have about our events and the materials we send you. To update your donor information to receive event invitations, please fill out the "Donor Data Request Form."

Guidelines for Student Communication to HACC Foundation Donors

The HACC Foundation is grateful to the generous donors that support the College and its mission to create opportunities and transform lives to shape the future - TOGETHER! To ensure transparency in all we do, the HACC Foundation has established the following guidelines for communication between donors and students.

As a scholarship recipient, you have been given the opportunity to continue your education. The donor of your scholarship may be a prominent business leader, a faculty member you know or a benefactor you have never met.

We appreciate your desire to communicate with the donor of your scholarship. However, it is inappropriate for students to contact donors with questions or concerns about their scholarships. Students should not contact donors to ask for money, express concerns about the College or the HACC Foundation, or ask questions about scholarship disbursements. A donation to the HACC Foundation is a gift, and our donors may wish to remain anonymous or simply be left alone.

To respect the privacy of our donors, all questions or concerns about your scholarship must be communicated through the HACC Foundation . Here are two suggestions on how you can communicate with donors:

  • Students are required to submit a thank-you letter to the donors of their scholarships. Remember, this is your opportunity to show your appreciation. If you need assistance with your scholarship thank-you letter, the HACC Foundation's scholarship specialist will be happy to help you. Her email address is HACCscholarships@hacc.edu.
  • Students are encouraged to attend the HACC Foundation's annual scholarship awards ceremonies. We will recognize you for your achievements, and you will have the opportunity to meet your scholarship donors at these events.

Please note that you may be ineligible for future scholarship funds if you fail to comply with these guidelines.
