This program is designed to provide entry level training for an individual who is interested in a career in wastewater treatment. The program offers training on the knowledge an individual must have to pass the PA DEP Licensing Exam. Providing 180 hours of technical instruction that combines both theory and hands-on skill pactice, the .student will learn about mechanical operations of a plant as well as the chemistry and biology behind treating the wastewater for release into a stream or to be deposited on the ground.

Students in this 60-hour course will learn about solar PV markets and applications, safety and electrical basics, solar energy and PV module fundamentals and system components, PV sizing principles, PV system electrical and mechanical design, and performance analysis, maintenance and troubleshooting. The course costs $1,200 per student and includes books, classroom theory, hands-on application and North American Board of Certified Energy Practitioners (NABCEP) Entry-Level Test. A payment plan is available.

HACC's 40-hour Building Analyst course includes:
- Inspecting the site, building envelope and mechanical ventilation systems
- Measuring carbon dioxide, combustion efficiency, flue capacity, appliance venting and vent pressure
- Evaluating ductwork and airflow design, duct leakage, and air distribution system repair methods
- Blower door testing, duct testing, moisture detection
- Combustion appliance zones, thermal boundary analysis and indoor air quality (IAQ) analysis
- Proper insulation, window and lighting design and installation
- Air sealing of the building envelope and draft repair
- Conditioned and transition zone analysis
- Base building calculations and baseload appliance inspection
- Billing analysis and measures for improvement packages
- Creating reports, proposals, scope of work and cost estimates
In order to have a basic understanding of building science, candidates should read, Residential Energy Cost Savings and Comfort for Existing Buildings" and "Saturn Energy Auditor Field Guide." These texts can also be used for future reference. Students will purchase the above named texts at the HACC Overhold Bookstore before class. Both theory and practice emphasize practical problem-solving in preparation for Building Analyst (BA1) certification through the Building Performance Institute (BPI). All inspection tools and equipment needed for the training will be made available for use by HACC. Testing for BPI auditor online and field exams is available for an additional fee. Classes meet at HACC's Midtown 2 site at 1500 N. Third St., Harrisburg.
