Attention Potential Honors Students!
The HACC Honors Program is going through some exciting changes. Caroline Mellinger has been named the new Program Coordinator in charge of creating an entirely new Honors Degree Program at HACC. Professor Mellinger teaches History for the HACC Virtual Campus and is the creator of the Honors Student and Social Network (pdf) available for Honors students in Blackboard.
Beginning in the fall of 2011, Professor Mellinger will take the role as Honors Program Director succeeding Dr. Yvonne Milspaw. Dr. Milspaw has deftly directed the Honors Program for nearly a decade; her shoes will be extremely hard to fill. During this transition year, Dr. Milspaw will coordinate the Honors Lecture Series and also assist Professor Mellinger with curriculum creation and student relations.
What is in store for the Honors Program?
- Our goal is to have a complete Honors degree program ready for students in the fall of 2012.
- The degree program will include new and innovative curriculum available only to HACC Honors students.
- Students in the degree program will be intellectually challenged and encouraged to express creativity and follow their intellectual curiosity while reaching their academic goals at HACC.
As we work on this transition, expect a considerable reduction in the Honors course offerings for the 2010-2011 and the 2011-2012 academic years. New applications for Honors will be accepted beginning in the 2011-2012 academic year. All new students accepted into the Honors Degree program will begin their honors coursework in the fall 2012.
Think you are up to the challenge? Prospective students interested in becoming an Honors Degree student and taking part in the new program can contact, Caroline Mellinger at honors@hacc.edu for more information.
