Bill Coulson of Lemoyne was a tool and die maker for 20 years when his job was phased out and he found himself in need of a new way to make a living.
“I had been out of school 25 years when I had to consider a retraining program through the state,” said Coulson, who enrolled in HACC’s Technology Studies program to earn an associate in applied science degree. “I took most of the building codes courses thinking I could be a building inspector. It was challenging,” he admitted, adding, “I wanted to quit once or twice. However, I knuckled down with the full support of my wife. HACC professors also did an excellent job for me.”
Today Coulson is the fire marshal and building inspector in Upper Allen Township in Cumberland County.
