Hello and welcome to the Engineering Department!

Having its roots in ancient Greece, the term “technology” encompasses many meanings of almost all facets of life. Nevertheless though, applied “knowledge” is the key and fundamental piece.

Origin of TECHNOLOGY
Greek technologia translates to the systematic treatment of an art, from techn? (art, skill) + -o- + -logia (logy)

Definition of TECHNOLOGY
1. a: the practical application of knowledge especially in a particular area 
    b: a capability given by the practical application of knowledge
2. a manner of accomplishing a task especially using technical processes, methods, or knowledge
3. the specialized aspects of a particular field of endeavor

As engineers, computer technology experts and trades professionals from industry, government, research, and academia, we in the Technology Division of HACC work together to shape tomorrow’s technology experts.

The focus in our Engineering Department here at Harrisburg Area Community College is undergraduate education. We offer a wide variety of diplomas, certificates, associate degrees and transfer programs all aimed at accommodating local community needs as well as individuals’ interests. While emphasizing the “bread and butter” in engineering (e.g.: architecture, civil, mechanical, electronics) emphasis is also continuously placed on emerging highly inter-disciplinary areas such as GIS and more recently, green technology programs of study (alternative energy, etc.).

In addition to our Technology Center headquartered at Midtown 1 and 2, the Technology Division offers a variety of programs at Hall Tech and North Hall as well as at HACC’s four other regional campuses in Gettysburg, Lancaster, Lebanon and York. More programs are available through the Virtual Campus.

While our faculty have achieved high level of technical competencies in their field, they are extremely student centered and fully committed to teaching and mentoring students.
