These high-tech systems play a vital role in everyday life, said Kari Meck, chair of HACC’s Computer Technology Department. “Computers are useful tools in many different trades and industries and bridge communications and cultural boundaries for professional and personal venues.”
That makes it an industry where expertise is prized to keep all systems running 24/7. The opportunities are without limits because the technology changes on the spin of a dime year in, year out. HACC’s computer department faculty members execute the same quick turns to stay on top of what students will need to know by the time they graduate. Although levels of education and experience will determine salaries and promotion possibilities, healthy job growth in the field of computers is anticipated. Prospects for employment are excellent for those with the right skills.
Median pay can range anywhere from $27,240 a year for an administrative office assistant to more than $42,000 annually for a database analyst, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.
