Communications and Foreign Language
HACC's Department of Communications and Foreign Languages welcomes and thanks you for looking at our page. As our department name suggests, we are not comprised of a solitary discipline. In fact, there are three disciplines within our department: Communications (pdf), Media Studies, and Foreign Languages. All degree seeking students will need to take either COMM 101 or 203. (Some programs require one or the other; some programs allow the student to make the choice; a few programs require both COMM 101 and 203.) Foreign Languages offers courses in Spanish, French, German, and Arabic but does not offer a degree in any specific language.
There are two degrees programs which can be used by those seeking a degree which can transfer to a four-year institution and be applied to a degree in a specific language. The first of these programs is Humanities, Languages, and the Arts (#2091). The second degree program is Humanities, Languages, and the Arts Education (#2101); this degree program is intended for students who are ultimately seeking a career in teaching. Many degree seeking students will also be required to take a foreign language and most are encouraged to do so as ours is indeed a multicultural society. Media Studies offers an AA degree which is intended to prepare students for transfer to a four-year institution of higher learning. |
