A career where words and images shape the world.
Got a message to get out there? Let HACC teach you how to develop the skills necessary to enter a field where it’s all about communicating a message to the viewer.
While a fine artist uses paint and canvas for self-expression, a graphic designer uses images, graphics and type to sell a product or an idea. A designer’s ‘canvas’ can be found anywhere – on a web page, in a magazine, on a billboard, even on a cereal box.
HACC’s Graphic Design curriculum is a state-of-the art program that focuses on developing talented and competitively skilled students.
The Graphic Design Associate Degree Program-2840 and Graphic Design Certificate Program-2200 are selective programs. Students interested in entering either program must first enroll in the Graphic Design Foundations Program-2830. While in Foundations Program-2830, students complete art foundation courses, specific math, writing, and reading requirements, and submit a portfolio. Students must meet entry requirements and pass the annual portfolio review in order to enter the Associate Degree or Certificate Program.
When enrolling in the Graphic Design Foundations Program-2830, students must meet with the Division Counselor or Graphic Design Director.
HACC’s Graphic Design program prepares students to enter a broad field with opportunities that can be found in advertising agencies, design firms, newspaper and publishing companies, television stations, web and multi-media production companies, print companies, retail stores, governmental agencies, and corporate in-house art departments, to name a few. As in most careers in the creative industry, this is a highly competitive field where the development and presentation of a portfolio is often the deciding factor in getting a job. Therefore, students are encouraged to take advantage of internship opportunities prior to graduation to gain valuable real-world experience.
