College announces new 65+program

Central Pennsylvania’s senior citizens can continue their life-long learning with HACC’s new 65+ program. It allows seniors to audit most credit courses for free, if they meet pre-requisites and placement testing requirements.

To participate, you must be at least 65 years of age and be a permanent resident of Adams, Cumberland, Dauphin, Franklin, Fulton, Juniata, Lancaster, Lebanon, Mifflin, Perry, Schuylkill or York County. If you are interested in auditing a credit course this fall, register in person at the HACC campus offering the course no more than five days before the start of the term (August 23). You will be accepted on a “seats available” basis. More

Expand your horizons with continuing education

Satisfy your thirst for knowledge and meet new friends by attending one of the fun classes offered this August by HACC’s Continuing Education Center. There’s something for everyone. Programs are scheduled at Harrisburg, Gettysburg, and Lancaster.

Get involved at HACC Lancaster

With many new students coming to campus this fall 2010, HACC Lancaster is asking alumni to help students achieve their goals, both in and out of the classroom.

HACC Lancaster offers many opportunities for alumni involvement. You can help with short-term projects, such as assisting with a campus event, participating in the annual Job Fair, or allowing a student to shadow you at work for a day. You could also consider a longer commitment of hosting a student intern at your company or organization. More

Host a Danish student

Interested in learning more about Scandinavian culture? Want to build a friendship with a foreign student? Volunteer to host a Danish student this fall. You’ll support HACC’s international education initiatives, too.

For the fifth year, Minerva Business College in Randers, Denmark, will send 27 students to Harrisburg from September 15-29 to learn more about international business. Students will be accompanied by faculty and spend two weeks studying, touring area businesses and landmarks, and meeting with business, industry, and government representatives.

The College is seeking families to house the students for these two weeks. Students range in age from 16 through 21 and are fluent in English. For more information, contact Morgan Horton at 717-780-3238 or send an email to mahorton@hacc.edu.

Study series examines the Battle of Gettysburg

Civil War history buffs can feed their addiction by participating in a series of programs focused on understanding the “what’s” and the “why’s” of the Battle of Gettysburg, an epochal event in our nation's history. This structured study, presented by licensed battlefield guides in the classroom and on the Gettysburg battlefield, begins in August at the HACC Gettysburg Campus. More

Explore the Big Apple

Join other HACC alumni on Saturday, November 20, for a fun-filled day in New York City. The HACC Alumni Association has chartered five buses for HACC alumni, family members, and friends. The buses will be leaving from HACC’s Harrisburg, Gettysburg and Lancaster Campuses. Once there, you are on your own to shop, catch a Broadway play, or explore the city’s many attractions. Cost: $40 per person. More

HACC alumni in the news

HACC takes pride in its alumni. With more than 50,000 members, HACC is making a difference in communities and workplaces in Central Pennsylvania, across the nation, and around the world. Find out what our graduates are doing. Please share your news with us, so we can publish it in future issues of Alumni Connect or our Connections magazine.

Connections is available online

You can now view current and past issues of Connections, the College’s quarterly magazine, online! Check out alumni news, profiles and what’s happening at HACC. Help the environment by choosing to receive your magazine online rather than in the mail. To do this, send an email to Connections@hacc.edu.
