HACC students thank you

The HACC Alumni Association thanks the hundreds of HACC alumni who have so far contributed to the 2010 annual appeal, Make A Difference. You are helping HACC students to believe and achieve!

To date, alumni have generously contributed more than $15,000. This support will make a world of difference in student programs, college capital projects, alumni services, and most importantly, providing financial assistance to students. Because of you, the Alumni Association awarded full tuition scholarships to five deserving students this school year.

It’s not too late to make a gift. The 2010 Alumni Appeal Phonathon begins April 7, so please make a contribution if you are called. You can also send in the pledge card sent recently. More details.

Wine making program added to HACC curriculum

On March 2, the HACC Board of Trustees approved the addition of enology (wine making) and viticulture (grape growing) programs to the college’s curriculum this fall. Students who enroll in either program will be able to earn an associate degree in applied science or a certificate in this rapidly growing industry.

The viticulture and enology programs are intended to draw students from across the eastern United States, Canada, and other cool-climate grape growing regions. Classes will be delivered through online instruction and a blended format, which is a combination of online instruction and one or two weekend “camps” at vineyards and wineries in the region for required intensive hands-on experience. In addition, internships will be offered for workplace learning. More details.

Brasserie discount added to Alumni College Card

HACC alumni can now enjoy the Pennsylvania Dutch traditions of food, friendship, and hospitality by dining at The Brasserie, an historic restaurant located near the HACC Lancaster campus—and receive a discount. The Brasserie will now give a 10 percent discount on food purchases to HACC alumni who dine at the restaurant when they show their Alumni College Card. Built in 1925, The Brasserie was once home to Issacher Polk Reese and his sizable family. Reese was a successful Mennonite businessman and founder of Lancaster's historic Reese Padlock Company.

The Alumni College Card also enables you to use other HACC services and facilities, including library privileges, access to Career Services programs and events, discounts on events held at various HACC campuses, discounts at all HACC bookstores and the Radius Gallery, a $25 Swedish massage at HACC’s Massage Therapy Clinic, a 10% discount on food purchases at Bricco, the bakery Ciao! and Olewine’s Meat and Cheese House in Harrisburg, use of the gym, tennis courts and swimming pool at the Harrisburg Campus and the fitness room at the Lancaster Campus.  Cards are $25 for an annual membership or $100 to become a lifetime member.
